Le chemin de garde ouvert à la visite !

C’est l’un des très rares vestiges du Mulhouse médiéval encore debout… Le mur d’enceinte que l’on peut admirer depuis le Jardin des Senteurs est exceptionnellement ouvert à la visite à l’occasion de ces Journées du patrimoine placées sous le signe de 800 ans d’histoire de la ville !

Au Moyen Age, c’est souvent la constitution d’une muraille qui fixe le vrai début de ce qu’on peut appeler une ville… Encore qualifié de “domaine “ (villa) en 1221, le territoire de Mulhouse est ensuite évoqué comme une “ville” (civitas) et le premier tracé d’un mur de fortification, entre 1224 et 1225 d’après les sources, y est assurément pour quelque chose. 800 ans, le compte y est !

Avec la Tour du Bollwerk, le fragment de rempart situé le long du Jardin des Senteurs est le dernier vestige de ce tracé médiéval. Les heureux clients du Il Cortile, seul restaurant étoilé de Mulhouse, peuvent également l’admirer depuis la terrasse.

Accessible depuis le bâtiment principal de la Cour des Chaînes, rue des Franciscains, le chemin de ronde n’est habituellement pas ouvert au public… Ces Journées du Patrimoine marquent donc l’occasion rarissime de pouvoir y monter et de mettre ses pas dans ceux des Mulhousiens d’il y a plusieurs siècles !
